The Blue Ridge Parkway

While North Carolina has good east west interstate highways, I chose to backtrack up to Virginia today and then head pretty much straight west over to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There were definitely shorter routes; however taking Hwy 58 across southern Virginia  turned out to be a very relaxing ride. It was four lanes mostly winding through rural Virginia.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is a scenic byway that follows the high crest of the central and southern Appalachians for 469 miles from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia, to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park in North Carolina. Once I got onto The Blue Ridge Parkway, I  headed southwest.  After riding approximately 60 miles on the parkway I decided to stop at Doughton Park Campground for the evening and take up the parkway again tomorrow.
